Q&A

Conditioning training is designed to improve your fitness, endurance, work capacity and recovery. It combines aerobic and anaerobic training methods to help you perform better in sport, training and everyday life.

Most people benefit from conditioning workouts 2-4 times per week, depending on their goals, training experience and recovery capacity.

Zone 2 training is steady, low-intensity cardio performed at around 60-70% of your maximum heart rate. It helps improve aerobic fitness, endurance and your body's ability to use oxygen more efficiently.

Zone 2 cardio helps build a strong aerobic base, improves recovery between sessions and supports long-term fitness development. It also complements higher-intensity training exceptionally well.

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) alternates short periods of hard work with recovery periods. Combined with lower-intensity aerobic training, it's one of the most effective ways to improve overall conditioning and athletic performance.

A combination of predominantly low-intensity aerobic work alongside smaller amounts of higher-intensity threshold training is often considered the most effective way to improve aerobic capacity and endurance.

Well-structured conditioning increases blood flow to working muscles, helping to deliver oxygen and nutrients while supporting recovery between training sessions.

Anaerobic power intervals involve short bursts of maximum effort followed by brief recovery periods. They're designed to improve your ability to produce high levels of power repeatedly.

Cardiac power intervals alternate maximal effort with rest periods to mimic the intense bursts of activity often seen in sport and competition.

Explosive power is developed through exercises that require maximum force in minimal time. Movements such as sled push sprints, hex bar jumps and explosive repeat efforts are all effective methods.

Sled push sprints are excellent for developing power, acceleration, speed and conditioning while also strengthening the lower body.

Hex bar jumps help improve explosiveness and power production, making them popular with athletes looking to jump higher, sprint faster and move more efficiently.

Explosive repeat methods train your ability to produce power repeatedly while recovering quickly between efforts, which is essential for many sports and high-intensity activities.

Depending on the programme, conditioning may include rowing, bike intervals, running, sled pushes, burpees, carries, circuit training, cone drills and sport-specific movement patterns.

Yes. Burpees combine a press-up and a jump, making them an effective full-body conditioning exercise that challenges both strength and cardiovascular fitness.

This depends on the exercise and goal, but many conditioning circuits use around 10 repetitions per movement before progressing to the next exercise.

Yes. In addition to increasing strength and helping prevent injury, regular strength training has been linked to improvements in cognitive function, including memory, particularly as we age.

Absolutely. Effective conditioning programmes combine the right intensity, volume and recovery to maximise results without unnecessary training time.

Yes. Where appropriate, we use sport-specific movement patterns, agility drills and cone-based exercises to improve performance in real-world situations.
